The Campsite

Apr 5, 2021 | 0 comments

Hi there, I hope you are well and safe. It’s been a while since I published the last post, and this is mostly due the fact that my studies at Uppsala University came to an end. Therefore,  my academic project (the prototype I’ve been working on during the last months) was handed in, and with it, the development diary for that project was concluded as well. But now it comes the exciting part, where the academic project ends and the real adventure begins.

The game

The goal for the Game Design in Practice program -which was creating and publishing the prototype to an audience- has been achieved, so from now on, I will be working on the commercial version of the game, that I expect to have it ready by the end of 2021.

With the prototype ready and tested, now it’s time to get into the production stage, where most the final art will be created, along with the music and sound effects. There will be small updates to the story and dialogues as well, but most of the puzzles and the overall gameplay will remain mostly the same (please note that the ending is still unfinished). In regards the UI, it will be completely renewed, and new features will be implemented, such as the save system, skippable dialogues and some other stuff to improve the overall UX. On the marketing side, there’s plenty of work to do as well, but just for you to know: I will continue sharing the process with you.

Itch.io

In order to reach a wider audience and get as much feedback as possible, I have created a product page for The Campsite at itch.io. This will be my main channel to communicate with you during this production stage -at least, until the release of the game- but I will be publishing some material here as well, but not as frequently as I was doing before. Therefore, itch.io is where all the action will happen, from now on.

The prototype is also available for playing from itch.io, you’ll find it in the same product page. It’s open to everybody, and it will remain like this permanently.

Discord

I’ve been using Discord mostly to follow other channels and connect with other people, as the server I created for this development diary hasn’t got much traffic yet. I’ll leave it open in case you want to reach me there, but I don’t expect to publish much stuff by now, at least until there’s a strong reason to do it.

I think that’s all for now, and if you’ve been following this dairy at any point, thank you so much for doing it, and I hope to see you at itch.io🤗
